13 NEW WORKS COMPOSED FOR THE QUADRIGA BASSOON ENSEMBLE

In the framework of a series of concerts for modern music, 13 new pieces by several composers have been written for the Quadriga Bassoon Ensemble. These new pieces will be performed in 5 concerts and the premiere is on the 10 of May 2008 in Rheinsberg.

Ever since the Quardriga Bassoon Ensemble was founded ten years ago, it has always been very open to contemporary music. In 1999 the Berlin based composer Georg Katzer was approached by the Ensemble to compose a piece to be performed at the Jugend musiziert competition. The result was a superb composition called Fagott-Quadrat. Seen as the combination of four bassoons is rather uncommon even today, only a small repertoire of works composed originally for four bassoons exists. All eleven composers showed great interest in writing for this unusual combination. To find new ways of expression and to consider the possibilities on the bassoon were set as objectives. Following the example of Georg Katzer's Fagott-Quadrat, this new concert programme consists of short character pieces that will enrich the repertoire for bassoon ensemble immensely.
