ELISABETH GÖRING

Elisabeth Göring was born in Erfurt in 1982. She received her first bassoon lessons at the age of 11 from her grandfather Dieter Hähnchen. A year later she was accepted for study in the class of Prof. Fritz Finsch. Since 2001 she has been a student of Prof. Dag Jensen. While still in school, she began participating successfully in competitions and was an award winner in Germany’s nationwide Jugend musiziert music competition in the solo bassoon category. In Michigan, USA she won the concerto competition at the Interlochen Arts Camp and consequently gave her debut as soloist at the age of 17 with the World Youth Symphony Orchestra. This was followed by solo concerts with various orchestras. Elisabeth Goering has performed as a chamber musician at numerous festivals, including the Schwetzinger Festspiele and Lucerne Festival. She was principal bassoon of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and has worked with such renowned conductors as Claudio Abbado and Pierre Boulez.She has been the recipient of scholarships from Villa Musica and the German National Merit Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes) and is a member of the Zurich Opera House Academy.
